Music
Images above and below were both shot at this years jazz festival in Winnipeg. An annual event that always starts with a free opening weekend (four days) to kick things off. I took full advantage this year and (despite missing Thursday) managed to catch 23 hours of live music in three days.
Here’s what I’ve learned from the weekend.
- Make nice with girls with Back Stage Passes. They will let you borrow them, and you’ll get to shoot the band from a different perspective.
- It’s really *effin’ hard to be creative when shooting live performances for 23 hours on the same stage (like, really really hard).
- NEVER turn your camera off. You have no idea when something awesome might happen.
- Make sure you have the right gear with you. I totally forgot the rain jacket for my camera (yes, it has a rain jacket) and had to leave early on Friday night when my t-shirt turned out to be insufficient for keeping the rain off my camera.
Either way I had a really good time. Got to listen to some pretty wicked music and discovered a few new bands that I will have to explore further. Met some really interesting people and made a few new friends. Almost mugged one of the other photographers for her gear, but managed to show some restraint.
I’ll put up a few more pics as they are edited, but would love to hear what you think of these. You can comment directly on Tumblr or link to the FB album (“like” my page while you’re there) “JAZZ FEST” and leave me a comment.
Thanks for sticking with me. Hope you’re enjoying so far…
Ryan
